Sweden is already struggling. Tomorrow is our turn.

Wednesday 3 April at 10:10

Thursday morning from 6 o’clock it will be low and the Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow warning.

Around 5–25 cm of snow is expected, mostly in Agder. Near the coast in Agder and Rogaland, the precipitation may locally come as sleet, the warning says.

Meteorologist Julie Solsvik Vågane explains that a low pressure is coming from the south which meets cold air over land.

– It hits Agder at night and then moves further north and east throughout the day, says Vågane and continues:

– In Oslo, it will start snowing already during rush hour, so the timing is a bit unfortunate.

Mile-long queues, several accidents and heavy snowfall have affected traffic in southern Sweden over the past 24 hours. On Wednesday morning, there is still complete chaos on the roads at sweet brother’s.

In this country, it is Agder that is hit the hardest, says meteorologist Vågane. In Oslo, it can fall between 5 and 10 centimeters.

– The way it looks now, it will snow evenly throughout Thursday and possibly a little beyond the night to Friday, she says.

– You should be prepared for things to take longer. It will be a typical day of delays, she adds.

Wasn’t it snow you wanted? Then the meteorologist has good news for you – it will be spring again at the weekend.

– We probably won’t quite get up to 20 degrees, but the conditions are right to get close to it, state meteorologist Marek Ratajczak told VG on Monday.

Recommendations

  • Protect vulnerable installations and objects that cannot withstand the expected amount of snow
  • Allow some extra time for transport and driving
  • Use the right tires and drive according to the conditions
  • The need for preparedness must be assessed continuously by emergency responders
