After a slight increase in recent years, there are now around 9,000 from each youth cohort who serve the first service each year. This corresponds to approximately 20 percent of the coal.
Investing billions
When the Armed Forces are now to grow, the government will in the coming years step up the intake by 50 per cent.
– The number will increase by 4,500, Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram told a press conference at Terningmoen near Elverum.
Several billion kroner will be invested in the Norwegian Armed Forces’ facility at Terningmoen to be able to receive 1,800 recruits four times a year.
“Now comes the biggest defense investment in Norway since the Second World War”, declared Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in February.
– Norway needs to strengthen its defence. We have strengthened it by 40 per cent since we came into government, but now we have to make a bigger move for several years to come, said Støre.
