It is not at all inconceivable that something like this could have happened to the proposed bridge connection HAFAST. Bear with the difference that the consequences could have been much greater with the unstable and bad weather that often happens in this area.

This is therefore another reason to scrap the bridge as a connection between Hareid and Sula. There is also no progress in the project. They have not even decided where the bridge will go, nor whether it will be a span of 3,000 m (the world’s longest bridge span) or 2 spans of 2,000 m with a tower in the middle that measures 735 m from bottom to top.

Utopia and castles in the air. Several hundred million kroner have already been spent on measurements of wind, sea currents, tides and seismic measurements, etc. Stop this waste and start thinking of an alternative, a tunnel between Hareidlandet and Godøya.

It is now about 5 years since I last wrote about the mainland connection in this newspaper. During this time, very little has happened; we are no closer to a relationship today than we were 5 years ago. It’s a waste of time. Imagine if the board had put prestige aside and initiated an investigation into the tunnel alternative. Over the years, they have received many encouragements to get on track about a tunnel as an alternative to a bridge, cf. my article on 9 March 2019 in VikebladetVestposten last paragraph. As I wrote in this article, the tunnel should go into the mountain at Diftebrua above Rise, under Hareidlandet and Godøya with connections to Vigra and Ålesund. In order to have a traffic-safe connection, two tunnel tunnels with double carriageways must be built.
