In our article series “ESC Norway assesses”, we will present our assessments of this year’s Eurovision songs throughout the spring. Today’s countries have a reputation for being extremely hungry for their first Eurovision win. ESC Norway considers: Malta

Throughout the spring, you will be presented with articles with an assessment of each individual country, so that each contribution can shine (or fade) to a greater extent. Our assessments will be presented with points in the familiar Eurovision style (1-8, 10 and 12), as well as that we will offer some thoughts about the individual song. The average of the points forms the basis for ESC Norway’s verdict. At the bottom of the article you will find out where the country is in the ranking.

ESC NORWAY’S SCORE AND COMMENTS:

JONATHAN – 2 POINTS – “No, no, no. There are some here who have looked at Chanel and Spain and thought that this is what we have to do. Then it will be even worse than Blanka from Poland last year, who tried the same thing.”

KNUT OLAV – 7 POINTS – “I think it’s a cool pop song. Many exciting elements in the music. I see the comparison with Chanel, but I think this one stands well on its own two feet, and Sarah sings well.”

TONE MARIA – 6 POINTS – “I actually quite like this genre, but this song doesn’t quite reach my taste. It’s a song you’ve heard many versions of before, and I can’t find anything about it that really stands out. In addition, I think there is a little too much ‘notch in the record’ in the text.”

MAGNUS – 1 POINT – “I should really like this, but I don’t. Here, there is nothing too fastidious. The song is plain and simple forgettable. She didn’t sing well in the national final either.”

CHARLOTTE – 7 POINTS – “I think this song is catchy and cool, nice to listen to in the studio version. But I think she will benefit from lifting the live performance a little out of the Chanel style.”

MANDY – 2 POINTS – “Absolutely not a fan of the panting way she sings, it’s very fussy and tiring. They are also trying way too hard to copy Chanel, but this will only be a first price edition. Sorry Malta, you can do so much better than this!”

MARIE – 6 POINTS – “I find this contribution difficult to place. I like the song itself. It’s really catchy. Sarah dances well and sings fairly well, but I can’t manage to like her voice. She sings cleanly and technically, so it’s simply the sound of her voice that I don’t like. It ruins a lot for me.”

CHANGE – 6 POINTS – “I’m a sucker for Malta, and I like this song here. Still, I wasn’t too taken by the live performance. Malta does a safe job, but I think that this song would have been better if it had represented its country 6-7 years ago.. A few years too late here, that is!”
