During the first three months of the year, investigations have been started into 16 murder cases with a total of 21 victims. In the whole of last year, 33 murder cases were registered with a total of 36 victims.

The development worries Kripos chief Kristin Kvigne.

– We are afraid that we will have more murders in Norway than before. We have traditionally been a country with few murders, and we have had a controllable situation in relation to that, she tells NRK.

– We also saw in 2023 that there were more murders than there were in 2022, and we are concerned about the development. But it is too early to draw a conclusion about whether we see an increased proportion of murders in Norway in general, she clarifies.

The case in the village of Torpo in Ål municipality in Hallingdal, which the police are now investigating as murder and suicide, is the fourth family homicide case in six months. It has cost 14 people their lives, and one person is injured.

– This is a horrific tragedy for the family, the local community and the entire nation, says Kvigne.

Kripos is assisting the local police in the investigation of the murders.
