(BERGENS TIDENDE): – The video surveillance from the derailment has been handed over to the police and the National Accident Investigation Board, writes press officer Anne Kirkhusmo in Bane Nor in an e-mail to BT on Sunday.

The video can provide important information about what happened when a freight train derailed on Friday evening.

The National Accident Investigation Board has already established that the freight train ran a red light. Two people have status as suspects.

A passenger train from Oslo got stuck in the Arnanipa tunnel in the direction of Arna station when the freight train derailed.

Sunday afternoon informs Accident Commission that the passenger train from Oslo stopped about one kilometer away from the goods train.

Prior to the incident, emergency calls were made, and the investigation will clarify the circumstances surrounding this and why the train did not stop as expected, writes the Accident Investigation Board.

The locomotive overturned in the entrance to the train tunnel between Arna station and Trengereid. Arna station is the last stop on the Bergen Railway before Bergen.

Cleanup underway

On the night of Sunday, the catenary cable at the site of the damage was removed.

On Sunday morning, the carriages of the freight train that were not damaged were pulled to Bergen with a work train.

Bane Nor runs empty goods wagons from Bergen to Arna station on Sunday. These will take four containers from the destroyed train carriages with them, and transport them back to Bergen.

Robert Nilsen, who is head of recovery and emergency services at Bane Nor, says on Sunday morning that they are now preparing the site to start cleaning.

– There is a train on its way from Bergen that will try to pull a little in the first train carriage. And we hope that what stands up against the tunnel mouth comes down.
