The new agreement means that the music of the world’s biggest artists is back on the platform, the companies report in a press release.

The agreement entails, among other things, that artists and songwriters are better paid, as well as new opportunities for promotion and engagement.

– This new chapter in our relationship with TikTok focuses on the value of music, the primacy of human artistic expression and the well-being of the creative community, says Sir Lucian Grainge, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group.

The agreement also means that TikTok and UMG will work together to ensure that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in the music industry protects human artistic expression and the economy that flows to artists and songwriters.

TikTok also commits to working with UMG to remove unauthorized AI-generated music from the platform, as well as tools to improve crediting of artists and songwriters.
