The past few months have been tough for the British royal family, to say the least. In February, the news came that King Charles (75) had been affected by cancer – and last week the same news came about Princess Kate (42).

In the middle of it all, King Charles arrives on Thursday morning with an Easter greeting to the people. Sky News reports.

Explains the absence

The king, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, expresses “great sadness” at not being able to attend the Royal Maundy service held in England on Maundy Thursday.

– The Maundy service has a very special place in my heart, he says initially, and continues:

– Jesus set an example of how we should serve and take care of each other – and how we as a nation need and benefit greatly from those who extend a friendly hand to us, especially in a time of need.

After the noise: Looking for people

The 75-year-old, who was acceded to the throne after Queen Elizabeth’s death, also highlights a promise he made during the coronation ceremony, namely to follow Christ’s example.

– It is my special prayer today, that our Lord’s example of serving one another can continue to inspire us and strengthen all our local communities.
