AppleInsider previously revealed that Apple will be updating its core apps, including Notes and the Calculator, but there’s more.

AI, page editing and simpler menu

For now, the Apple newspaper reveals what plans Apple has with Safari 18 for iOS 18 and macOS 15. In place is a new interface for changing the most popular functions for web page views, a new “Web Eraser” function and an AI powered service that summarizes content.

When the AI feature is enabled, which leverages local labor, “the tool is believed to leverage Apple’s on-device AI technology — specifically the Ajax language learning model — to identify topics and key phrases on a web page on which to base the summary,” explains AppleInsider about the new version Apple internally tests before the beta testing starts on June 10 with the subsequent launch of the final version in September.

Safari 18 gets significant upgrades in Safari and perhaps all OSes get system-supported visual search.

With the “web page eraser”, Safari 18 can remove content on websites it doesn’t like, according to people familiar with Apple’s plans. The browser will also remember the changes after restarting. macOS 15 Safari 18 will copy iPadOS in terms of the settings interface, where you can easily (instead of opening the separate settings menu) access zoom options, website settings for privacy controls, content blocking options, extension shortcuts and access to the new AI and delete tools. It is also likely that Apple will implement visual search, in order to, among other things, buy products you see in online media, but we do not yet know whether it applies only to the browser or the OS – we are guessing the latter so that apps such as the photo app work.

Apple announced in April that it was able to increase Safari 17.4 performance by 60 percent in the new speedometer test:

“With all these optimizations and dozens more, we were able to improve the overall Speedometer 3.0 score by ~60 percent between Safari 17.0 and Safari 17.4. Although individual progressions were often less than 1 percent, over time, combined they make a big difference,” Apple explains adding “because some of these optimizations also benefited Speedometer 2.1, Safari 17.4 is also ~13 percent faster than Safari 17.0 on Speedometer 2.1,” the company explains at the time – will they be able to increase performance further with Safari 18?
