The Tesla Model Y is Norway’s supremely best-selling car in the class of family SUVs – and the obvious benchmark.

Recently, Tesla launched a version of the Model Y with rear-wheel drive and a range of 600 km.

Later in the year, the Renault Scenic will come with front-wheel drive and a range of up to 622 km (read test drive here).

And these days you will see the first editions of the Peugeot E-3008 (read test drive here) on the road. It will initially come with front-wheel drive and a range of up to 550 km, but later also with a range of up to 700 km (as well as four-wheel drive and a range of around 550 km).

Have you read these cases?

Pushing the price

We already know of two-wheel drive versions of all the most popular cars in this class. And now it comes BYD Seal U (read test drive here). As expected from BYD, they are pushing the price down well on the newcomer.

But there are a couple of decisive factors that reduce the price gap up to the most affordable version of the Model Y – with rear-wheel drive and a 455 km range:

FEELING OF QUALITY: We recognize the instruments from other BYDs in Norway, such as the seven-seater Tang and the sedan Han. But the center console is new.

A scant 30,000

Tesla has both a trailer hitch and a white metallic paintwork included in the price. On the BYD Seal, both parts are optional equipment – for NOK 19,900 and NOK 8,900 respectively.

In that case, the price for Seal U will be NOK 453,000, and Model Y NOK 480,000, including winter wheels. In other words, a difference of just NOK 30,000.

Then you have to go a little more thoroughly into the equipment packages to see if there are significant differences. Seal U comes with, among other things, a head-up display and ventilated front seats as standard.
