Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, will be the first member of the royal family to visit Ukraine since Russia’s invasion.

Monday 29 April at 21:47

That’s what Sky News writes.

The visit, at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is to demonstrate solidarity with women, men and children affected by the war, and is also a continuation of her work to help survivors of conflict-related sexual violence.

The Duchess (59) met the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska.

Sophie, who is a full-time working member of the royal family, also delivered a private message to them in a letter from the king, according to Sky News.

She met people displaced by the war and visited the site of a mass grave in Bucha where the victims of the Russian occupation were buried at the start of the war in April 2022.
