Chae An from the town of Lacey in the state of Washington in the USA has this week pleaded guilty to attempted murder of his wife, reports the news website Fox News 13 Seattle.

An was sentenced to 165 months in prison, which corresponds to just over 13 years. He is also not allowed to contact the victim for the rest of his life.

Divorce arguments escalated

The ex-wife, referred to as Young, spoke during the sentencing. She told about the day when An tried to kill her, back in October 2022.

Murder mystery solved after 24 years

According to her, an argument arose that day, about a possible divorce and about their finances.

– When I asked him to leave, he attacked me, hit me in the head and threw me to the ground, she says.

Called with Apple Watch

He then allegedly taped her hands behind her back, as well as her eyes, thighs and ankles. When he left the room for a short while, she called 911 using her Apple Watch.

When he returned, he saw that she was ringing the bell, and destroyed it with a hammer.

– Then he took me in a van out to the forest, where I was stabbed several times in the chest with a knife. He then placed me in a hole he had dug, and placed a heavy tree and lots of earth over me, she says and continues:

– I asked him to think about our children, but he just said he was going to kill me. He buried me alive, she tells the court.

Flee to the nearest house

Finally, when her husband was not around, she was able to twist herself out of the tape that was in front of her eyes, on her legs and arms. She got out of the hole and ran.

Be lame – suspect soup

An’s van was still nearby. She saw that the lights were on and that there was steam on the windows. Shortly after she had begun her escape, she discovered a house nearby. Young knocked and asked whoever answered the door to call the police.

After the incident, investigators have found a number of materials, such as duct tape and the hole in the ground, which prove that her story is true.

– No one can take my life away. After that day, my life and my children’s were ruined. I have to live with trauma and health problems for the rest of my life because of the incident, says Young.

An’s defense attorney argued that he was overmedicated and undertreated for post-traumatic stress when he committed the acts.

Repentant sins

An himself says that he wishes he had never entered that house that day in 2022.

– I’m so sorry. I apologize for causing this terrible pain.

He also addressed his children from the witness box. It is not known if the children of the former couple were present.

– I love you with all my heart, you mean everything to me.

The judge with a clear message

The judge in the trial refers to his action as cruel.

– The crime you plead guilty to is atrocious. That you prevented her from calling for help, attacked her, and buried her alive.

Warns of dentist mistakes

Furthermore, the judge speaks to Young, and refers to her as strong and brave.

– I hope that today’s hearing will be the end of this chapter, and will enable you to focus on getting well again, for yourself and your children.
