– Europe is becoming aware of the risk posed by hostile global powers too late.
Macron believes that Europe has to “change the standard” when it comes to defence, and emphasizes that we are now experiencing “a profound change when it comes to security”.
– We must aim for a durable defense in Europe, he says.
Compared to Putin
The president proposes to create a European military academy to “train high-ranking military personnel”, as well as a “European cyber security resource”.
– Europe should show that we are not America’s vassal, he exhorts.
Macron emphasizes:
– We must strengthen ties with Great Britain in defense matters.
The president then goes on to warn that Europe “risks becoming poor”.
– We should evaluate our growth model, as the rules of the game have changed, he says.
The message from Macron comes during a speech he gives at the Panthéon-Sorbonne University in Paris. Outside, the police have surrounded a large number of demonstrators, reports the TV channel Le Média.
