An Australian court extends the order that X/Twitter must remove the video of a knife attack on a bishop in Sydney. The authorities believe that the video can fuel terror or fuel conflict.

The knife attack was Islamist terror and it is difficult to see how a video can give the impetus to terror. The authorities also believe it can be harmful to young users.

Elon Musk disagrees, and on Wednesday the video was still viewable on X in Australia for users with a VPN.

X has refused to remove the video, which is why the authorities have gone to court. On Wednesday, the ban on the video was extended until May 10 in a brief court hearing in Sydney.

The Assyrian bishop was stabbed during a service in a suburb of Sydney earlier in April. A 16-year-old has been arrested for the attack, which is being investigated as terrorism.

X’s lawyers argue that the bishop himself is not against the video clip being published. A new court hearing will be held in the case on 10 May.

But it wasn’t just the 16-year-old who was involved. The police have arrested seven other people suspected of interference, TT reports.

The police describe it as the seven arrested constituting “a risk and a threat” of an unacceptable kind.

Previously, the teenager who was arrested for the stabbing was said to be a follower of a “religiously motivated extremist ideology”. The boy is said to have shouted Muslim slogans during the crime, and is expected to be brought before the court for terrorist offences.

The bishop has appealed for calm after the incident. It has shaken Australia’s largest city, Sydney, especially as it came just a few days after a man hacked to death six people in a shopping mall. That case is not classified as terrorism, but an act of pure madness.
