A 12-year-old pupil at a primary and secondary school in Vantaa in Finland shot and killed a fellow pupil of the same age on Tuesday. In addition, he shot and injured two other students of the same age.

– The perpetrator has said during questioning that he was the target of bullying, and this information has been confirmed in initial investigations by the police, they write in a press release.

They further state that the perpetrator had been transferred to the school at the start of this year.

What happened?

Three 12-year-olds were shot at a primary and secondary school in Vantaa in Finland on Tuesday morning. One of them has been confirmed killed, while the other two are critically injured. The school has around 800 pupils and 90 employees.

Who is the perpetrator?

A 12-year-old child has been arrested and suspected of the shooting. The person was in possession of a firearm, which the police have now seized. No one else is a suspect in the case.

What happens now?

The case is being investigated as murder and attempted murder. As the perpetrator is 12 years old, he is not criminally responsible. Crisis teams are in place to help those affected.

He is under the criminal minimum age in Finland and can therefore neither be arrested nor imprisoned.

– The suspect has been handed over to the custody of the social authorities after police questioning and preliminary investigative measures, they write in the press release.
