Brutal murder

– I’m going to play this on “repeat”, his girlfriend Emiliy is quoted as saying by 7 News.

– This is exactly who you were. Positivity and smile.

The tourist killing bore the stamp of an execution. Local police believe the three comrades were shot in the head during an attempted robbery where thieves wanted to steal the car they were driving.

The Mexican state of Baja is a popular tourist destination for surfers. The state also has the highest number of car thefts in Mexico.

Brothers Jake and Calum Robinson came from the coastal city of Perth on the Australian west coast. Little brother Jake was a doctor, while Callum was a top athlete and played on Australia’s national lacrosse team.

Together with their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad, the trio had gone camping and surfing. The week before, they had been to the Coachella music festival in California.

Found in water hole

The brothers were reported missing by their parents on April 29 after they had not heard from them for two days. The bodies were found in a 15 meter deep water hole off the beaten track on Friday 3 May.

The police also found the remains of a fourth person in the water hole. This person has not been identified.

State Attorney María Elena Andrade Ramírez has stated that the police lost important time because the three men were not reported missing until a few days had passed, writes The New York Times.

– The world has become a darker place

A man in his early 30s has been charged with the murder.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the accused allegedly told his girlfriend that he attacked “three gringos” and that he killed them.

The reason is said to have been that he wanted the tires on their car, according to the newspaper.
