COLUMBIA — After a weekend series win over unranked Missouri and a 15-3 midweek win in seven innings over Winthrop, South Carolina baseball has a tough battle ahead when it faces No. 12 Georgia at home this weekend.

The SEC series between two closely ranked teams could have a large impact on the postseason, where both teams are projected to host a regional in the NCAA Tournament according to Baseball America’s predictions.

The No. 14 The Gamecocks (33-15, 13-11 SEC) are back at home after four straight away games. The Bulldogs (35-12, 13-11) are riding a five-game win streak heading into South Carolina, sweeping Vanderbilt last weekend.

On May 5, Bulldogs redshirt sophomore Charlie Condon hit his 33rd home run, tying the all-time season record in the BBCOR era. Condon is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 MLB draft. On Wednesday, coach Mark Kingston said he has “the type of stats that make Barry Bonds blush.”

The SEC series begins Thursday and ends on Saturday. Per game notes, the Gamecocks lead the all-time series with Georgia, 72-66. The Gamecocks swept the Bulldogs in Athens last season.

Saturday will be Senior Day for South Carolina, honoring Dylan Brewer, Austin Brinling, Gavin Casas, Garrett Gainey, Ty Good, Parker Noland and Dalton Reeves. Junior catcher and SEC Player of the Week Cole Messina was named to the Buster Posey Award Midseason Watch List, per game notes. The award is given to the best Division I catcher in the country.
