Glanzer Tosses Perfect Game In NSIC Tournament Opening Victory

--

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Grace Glanzer spun her second perfect game of the season to lead the Augustana softball team to a 6-0 victory over St. Cloud State in the NSIC Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon at Bowden Field.

Glanzer struck out a pair of hitters while mixing in 10 ground outs and nine fly outs in an 81-pitch complete game.

She faced just two full counts on the day, forcing a line out to lead off the second inning and collecting a called strike three to close the fifth inning.

Offensively, Andrea Cain went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored and Gracey Brink went 3 for 3 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored to lead the way.

Desi Cuevas had a hit, stole base and run scored, Torri Chute had a home run, two RBI and two runs scored and Liz Dierks had a hit to round out the nine Viking hits.

The foot hit the pedal early as Cain doubled and Cuevas singled on the first two pitches of the game. Cuevas stole second base on the third pitch and both runners advanced on a Kennedy Buckman sac fly on the fourth pitch to take a 1-0 lead.

Chute worked her count all the way to 1-1 before her two-run blast over the right center fence to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead.

That was it for the scoring until the fifth inning. Cain singled and advanced on a wild pitch to lead off the inning. After back-to-back strikeouts, Chute was intentionally walked to bring up Brink and the NSIC Player of the Year delivered.

Brink sent a double to the right center gap to drive in a pair of runs before advancing to third, and would score when Ashton Dorman reached on an error to bring the game to its final score.

Glanzer threw just six pitches in the seventh inning, forcing a ground out and a fly out before fielding a comebacker to cap off the masterpiece.
