Rowan Tops Baseball in NJAC Tournament Opener

Union, NJ (4/30/24) – Rowan University used two big innings to defeat the Kean University baseball team, 8-6, in the opening round of the NJAC Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Kean jumped out on top in the first with a two-run homer from Tyler Stone.

The Profs answered in the second with four runs. Marco Mannino worked a bases loaded walk, Tyler Cannon was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Phil Sedalis duck Patrick Defeciani each had RBI singles.

The Cougars closed the gap in the third as back-to-back singles and a hit batter loaded the bases with no outs. Stone later scored on a groundout.

Rowan made it 8-3 with another four spot, this time in the sixth.

Kean rallied late in their last at bat as pinch-hitter Tim Wright delivered an RBI double and Dan Reistle doubled home two. With the tying run at the plate, Rowan was able to snare a ball up the middle and throw to first for the final out.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Mike Shannon improved to 7-2 after tossing eight innings. He allowed 11 hits and two walks and struck out three.

Christian Pellone and Reisle each had three hits for Kean, with Pellone collecting two doubles.

Anthony Schooley and Cannon each had three hits for the Profs.

UP NEXT:

#2 Kean will face #1 Stockton in the elimination game on Friday at noon at host Rutgers-Camden.

#5 Rowan will face #3 Ramapo in the winner’s bracket game on Friday at 7 pm at host Rutgers-Camden.
