Person found dead in burnt-out car on Romerike

--

The police were alerted at 07.41 on Tuesday morning by the fire service, who had received a report from a casual walker about a burned-out car.

– When he approached the car, he saw that it was most likely a burnt corpse lying in the car, says task leader Ketil Lund to VG.

The car was found in a car park at Myrdammen, a popular hiking area in Rælingen municipality in Østmarka east of Oslo.

– We could observe the same thing as the hiker when we arrived at the scene. It was a burnt-out car, no flames, only smoke, and to us it looked like there was a person in the car, says Lund.

– Where was the person?

– In the front of the car.

– In the driver’s seat?

– It is a bit difficult to say at the moment.

The incident leader states that they have made contact with the owner of the car.

– The car owner has been contacted and is now being questioned to find out who has disposed of the car, says Lund.

The police do not yet know who the deceased is, so no next of kin have been notified.

– We know very little about the person. There is a burnt corpse lying there, but we are unable to say anything about gender or age, says Lund.

He states that they also do not have any reports of missing persons, but adds that forensic experts are working on the case.

– It is currently unknown who this person is and what has happened. The police have launched an investigation, the East police district initially announced at 09.26.

Duty officer Alf Robin Gundersen Minothi previously told VG that it is very early in the case and that they currently have little information.

– What I can say is that we found a burned-out car with the probable remains of a person inside the car. It is very early. We are working on investigative steps and cannot say anything more as of now, says Minothi.

The fire brigade arrived at the scene almost at the same time as the police, according to duty operator Nicklas Nordqvist in East 110 central.

– We received a report that a car was more or less burnt out. Our task at the site was to assist with temperature checks and turning off the car. It is a police matter from here on, says Nordqvist and has no further information about the case.
