The “Mina og meg” star talks about a dramatic accident:

Adventurer and TV series creator, Alexander Read (42) became a well-known name after the viewer success “Mina og meg” on TV 2.

In the series, the hiking dad took his five-year-old daughter Mina to cross the Finnmarksvidda on skis.

This week, Read guested on the NRK podcast “Drivkraft”, and shared his personal journey from his time in the military to becoming an adventurer, coach and, not least, a father of three.

– Although not serious

There it emerges that Read has also experienced “going on the nose”, in a way that could have had fatal consequences.

– I remember everything. I swam in, and there was a lot of blood in the water. I saw that someone started to jump in to save me, but I had so much adrenaline that I didn’t quite understand the seriousness, he says in the episode.

In 2013, Read found himself in a situation that could cost him his life: He broke his neck as a result of a water sports accident.

– I was lying on such a huge cushion, where someone jumps on one side so that you fly up into the air and into the water. So I flew ten meters into the air, landed right on my neck, broke my neck and “smashed” my lungs, he says.

The blood he saw around him in the water came from his lungs having received “a real blow”. Read was taken to hospital, and was quickly diagnosed with a broken neck. Furthermore, he had to remove a vertebra, where a piece from his hip was transplanted.

Then followed a long training period.

– I had to train myself right from the start. Then there was a bad atmosphere in the camp with neck collars and in general. I also lost my voice and was told that it was possible I would never get it back. Then I also lost myself a little, he says further in the episode.

Fortunately, that was not the outcome for the 42-year-old, and he finally got back on his feet with his voice intact. Shortly before the accident, he had also met his current wife, Kristin.

Despite the fact that he remembers everything from the traumatic experience, it seems that the fun-loving father takes the most lessons and experiences with him.

To have been exposed to difficult situations, and to have walked on the face – literally – have rather been important pillars for the person the 42-year-old describes himself as to this day.
