About the movie:

Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley give us a good laugh in this delightful English crime comedy.

The film is incredibly based on a true story. The action takes place in the English village of Littlehampton in the 1920s, where the uncouth and free-spirited Rosie (Buckley) has moved from Ireland with her daughter and boyfriend. She gets to know her neighbor Edith (Colman), who is Rosie’s exact opposite – conservative and very correct. Suddenly, Edith starts getting obscene letters in the mail, and everyone suspects Rosie. But something is not right, and the village’s female police constable decides to find out who the real sender is.

Olivia Colman is an amazing actress and she is really festive as Edith! Chaste, proper and submissive, but with a burning desire to “bloom” and attract attention. Her facial expressions alone are worth the entire trip to the cinema! Jessie Buckley is the perfect Rosie; cheeky and free – but good at bottom. In the other villagers, we find delightful caricatures, and with police constable Gladys Moss, director Sharrock (A whole half year) has given us an ever-so-small feminist rebellion in the bargain.
