Ukraine has carried out a drone attack on one of Russia’s largest and most modern oil refineries in the Russian republic of Tatarstan.

Russian authorities say they repelled the attack, while Ukraine’s military said Ukrainian-made drones inflicted significant damage on a military target in Tatarstan on Tuesday.

Local authorities further said that several people were injured in drone attacks on industrial sites in the area.

Later, Russian officials said the air defense had repelled a drone attack on Tatneft’s Taneco refinery in Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, 1,300 kilometers from Ukraine, and that the refinery was operating as normal.

– The attack was neutralized by the electronic air defense system. There were no injuries and no material damage, says Ramil Mullin, who is mayor of the city. However, there were injuries after drone strikes elsewhere in the city, it says.

However, the news agency Reuters has analyzed images from the scene and concluded that drones hit parts of the Taneco refinery.

The attack is one of the most far-reaching that Ukraine has carried out so far in the war. Nizhnekamsk is 1,050 kilometers east of Moscow. The Taneco refinery is one of the largest and newest in Russia, with a capacity of 360,000 barrels per day.
