Julie Paulsen Johannessen, who has been part of the Norwegian shooting team since 2019, has passed away. She turned 21 years old.

This is reported by the Norwegian Shooting Association on Tuesday.

This month, the 21-year-old from Fredrikstad made his debut in the senior class in the World Cup in Lima.

A few days after she returned to Texas, she was found dead in her room at the university she attended, the association writes.

– It feels incredibly sad, hurts and is completely unreal. We want to stand with the family in their grief and help ensure that Julie’s memory is well taken care of, writes the national team’s sports director, Tor Idar Aune, on the association’s website.

Last autumn she became European champion in the junior class in the 50 meter match. In addition, she won silver in the mixed team and bronze in the team in the same championship. Earlier in the same season, she took silver and bronze in the 50 meters in the World Cup for juniors, writes the Norwegian Archery Association.

– A good, warm and caring girl with ambitious goals and a dream to become the very best. A strong-willed and dedicated girl who put in enormous training work and who could almost conjure up decisive situations in competitions, writes Aune at the Shooting Association.

– In the days just before she died, Julie was planning the summer’s training, on her way to new goals after her experiences in WC Lima. This was not the case for Fredrikstad’s big shooting star, who died on Sunday 23 April 2023, it says.
