Much has been written about Toys for Bob this year. First they were negatively affected by Activision Blizzard’s layoffs, then they were assumed to be shutting down, then it was revealed that they are leaving Activision Blizzard to go indie, and now most recently that Microsoft will release their next project.
So… what’s their next game? When the breakup with Activision Blizzard was announced, the studio wrote that “our team is excited to develop new stories, new characters and new gameplay experiences” – something that sounds like something completely new. On the other hand, Matt Booty, vice president of Microsoft Studios, during a meeting with his employees recently, is said to have said that the studio’s upcoming title “will be similar to games that Toys for Bob has made in the past”.
And now the very famous Crash and Spyro content creator Canadian Guy Eh says in a new video that he knows what it is, namely Spyro 4. He says he heard this from several developers during the Game Developers Conference (and also rumors before that) , and that it has been in active development since January 2024. It is also worth remembering that Toys for Bob itself should have teased Spyro 4 already in January – when development allegedly started.
Spyro 4 is a game fans have been asking for for years, so if it turns out to be true, there will be a lot of happy faces. Microsoft certainly wouldn’t mind adding some fairly familiar family entertainment to Game Pass, and combined with Canadian Guy Eh’s good reputation, we think this is an above-average reputation that could turn out to be true.
