PRESS CONFERENCE PART TWO:

Many raised their eyebrows when Bruno Fernandes was quoted a short time ago as being one certain possibility that he, after the EC this summer, maybe had to consider whether his future lay elsewhere than at Old Trafford.

In part two of Thursday’s press conference before the away game against Crystal Palace, Erik ten Hag received several questions about the Portuguese’s role at the club, but also about the interview he had done with DAZN.

– I definitely want him to stay here. The statements are taken out of context, so this is not something we have talked about at all. He is very happy to be here and he will definitely be here until the end of the contract, said Ten Hag.

TAKE CARE OF THE INJURIES AND THE TRANSITION WINDOW:

– I hope it takes another ten years before I experience this again

The Dutchman was also asked about the importance of having a continuity carrier of the caliber that Captain Fernandes represents.

– It is very important. Taking responsibility and giving everything is one of the most important resources a player can possess in today’s football. You must always deliver. Bruno is always available, never misses a game and performs all the time.

COMMENT:

“It would be absurd to ask him to pack his things now.”

– Do you have players who do not have the same attitude, for example when it is 50/50 whether they can play or not?

– There are always subjective criteria associated with it. What I do know is that Bruno is a fighter. His ankle was very swollen in the FA Cup semi-final last year and he could hardly run. Still, he continued to play, Ten Hag said.

Earlier at the press conference, the United manager announced that Fernandes is “doubtful” for the match at Selhurst Park, but that there is a good chance that he will make it to the match.
