At the weekend, several media reported that Liverpool and Feyenoord had reached a verbal agreement on a transfer for head coach Arne Slot to the Reds. Monday reports https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1784949051068203174?s=61&t=aRIIm0XeR-pGihysPkn6dw that all documents have been signed and that it is now only a matter of time before we get the official announcement.

According to Romano, the announcement will come in the coming weeks, as soon as the two clubs have figured out how to present the news.

Feyenoord, like Liverpool, only have three games left of this year’s season, and like the Reds, they now only have honor left to play for. Slot’s team is number two in the Eredivisie, nine points and 30 in goal difference behind the superb PSV, and twelve points ahead of Twente in third place. Liverpool, on the other hand, have practically secured Champions League play next season, and need just one more point to secure third place. There is still a mathematical possibility for league gold, but there is little indication that both Arsenal and Manchester City will collapse at the same time as Liverpool win their last games.

Thus, there is little that stands in the way of the clubs being able to make an announcement even if the seasons are not yet completely finished.

Head coach

Last week, Slot stated that he wants to become Liverpool coach and that he hoped the clubs could come to an agreement. For those of us who follow the club, it will be unusual to have to call the new boss head coach instead of manager. Unlike Klopp, Slot will mainly concentrate on what happens on the training field.

“The plan is for him to focus on training and preparation with the first team, while reporting to Richard Hughes. He will again have responsibility for recruitment and other aspects of the football department. The duo work under Michael Edwards,” wrote The Times at the weekend.

Jürgen Klopp also made new comments about the expected Slot signing in an interview with TNT Sports:

– I don’t know how far the discussions have progressed, but of course I have taken it with me. What I like about this is primarily that he really wants to work here. That’s exactly how it should be. I also like the positivity around the whole scheme, that people say they are looking forward to him being the next in the job.

We are now eagerly awaiting the next press release from Liverpool FC!
