After another disappointing loss against Everton last night, Liverpool’s supporters are hungry for some good news around the club. Many are probably skeptical of Arne Slot, with a past in AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord, but it has become more and more clear that he is the man Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes want through the doors at Anfield.

The rumors surrounding the 45-year-old started on Monday, just after Ruben Amorim got on the plane to London to talk to West Ham. Since then, there have been several news items that indicate that an agreement is approaching.

The latest comes from Fabrizio Romano, who writes the following on Twitter/X on Thursday morning:

“Liverpool wishes to continue talks with Feyenoord over the next few hours to reach an agreement on compensation. There are no problems with the contract talks with the manager or his representatives”.

Slot is rumored to be very interested in taking over the job at Anfield as soon as Feyenoord approves Liverpool’s bid for him. The first bid, which stood at nine million euros (£7.7 million), was rejected on Wednesday, according to David Ornstein.

When can he take over?

If it ends up that Arne Slot becomes Liverpool’s new boss, he will probably take over the role after a short holiday after the end of the season in the Eredivise. The Dutch top division ends on May 19, the same day as the Premier League.

What has caused the talks to start so early is that, by all accounts, Feyenoord cannot reach PSV at the top of the table, while the Champions League place is already secured. The Dutch cup (KNVB Beker) was also finished last weekend when Slot and Feyenoord beat Nijmegen 1-0.

Daily Mail journalists Lewis Steele and Dominic King report on Monday that Liverpool want to get the deal in place as soon as possible.

“Things can happen very quickly. Liverpool contacted Feyenoord on Wednesday morning, and the plan is to get an agreement in place as quickly as possible. The only thing left is the compensation agreement”.

Arne Slot stands at 1.22 in odds to become Liverpool’s next manager on Sky Bet. Ruben Amorim, who is the nearest competitor, has gone up to ten.
