Zero goals, zero points and 1.91 in xG (expected goals) was the result against Everton on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, we have seen that match too often in the last month, and the result of the crazy waste of chances is that Liverpool are now out of the Europa League, the FA Cup and the Premier League.

After the 0-2 loss in the Merseyside derby, Jamie Carragher raised the problems in the attacking line on Sky Sports.

– Mohamed Salah is Liverpool’s most important goalscorer, but he has gone all the way up the ladder. This has probably meant that the players around him have received attention and more eyes on him.

– I wouldn’t say they have saved other players in the past, but the lack of goals from him has shown that Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez are not as clinical in front of goal as their predecessors (Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane), said the former Liverpool player .

With a new manager on the way to Anfield, Carragher believes Liverpool’s attack should be looked at before the Premier League summer window opens in mid-June.

– I think that discussion must be held when a new manager is in place. The main question is what lies in the future of Mohamed Salah. It is perhaps the first time we bring up that question here (in the Sky studio), because in addition to his achievements, he only has one year left on his contract, continued the 46-year-old.

Critical of Nunez

In addition to Salah, Darwin Nunez has also entered a real goal drought in the red suit. In the past, the Uruguayan has made up for wasted chances by creating space and facilitating for others, but right now the 24-year-old offers very little in Liverpool’s attack.

– I think I have reached a point where there is no need to ask any more questions. You want him to do well because you like him, but after two years, you need a striker who scores the goals you need at Old Trafford, Goodison Park and in European games like against Atalanta.

– A new player is often given time to adapt, but after two years we should see clear improvements. It looked like he was headed for it at the start of the season, but it has stalled again.

The Liverpool striker has only scored one league goal since the overtime chaos against Nottingham Forest at the start of March. It has now been seven games.

– He has not improved much in two years, and we have seen what he stands for. That won’t change. He will always cause problems (for opponents), but he will also be inconsistent in his finishing.

– I don’t think it will be enough to win the biggest trophies, so a big and important decision must also be made here in the summer, was Carragher’s clear verdict.
