Ryan Garcia – I drank every day

--

American Ryan Garcia (25) shocked most when he defeated compatriot Devin Haney (25) in the boxing ring at the Barclays Center in New York on the night of Saturday Norwegian time.

– A big surprise, wrote Sky Sports.

Garcia floored Haney, who has been ranked as one of the best boxers in the world, on three occasions, eventually winning the big fight on points (115-109, 114-110 and 112-112).

Caused a stir

At the post-fight press conference, Garcia again stole the headlines. He revealed that the charge-up before the match had not been of the orthodox kind.

– I don’t care what people say about me. I drank every single day. It’s not something I’m necessarily proud of, but I do what I want. And yet I win, said Garcia, full of confidence.

Rating: Norway’s greatest bandy talents

Martial arts reporter Ariel Helwani is a little shocked that Garcia walked away with the victory over Haney.

– It’s unbelievable. He delivered the fight of his life, and deserved to win against one of the best of all time – regardless of weight class. This is a match I will remember for the rest of my life. Wow, Helwani reported on X.

Hooked in

Despite the victory, it is not inconceivable that, sportingly, it could have gone even better for Garcia – if he had dropped the alleged drinking before the match.

Heading into the big game, the 25-year-old failed at the weigh-in. And since he couldn’t make the weight cut, he also didn’t get to take over Haney’s WBC super lightweight title, without the American seeming to care significantly about exactly that.

According to himself, Garcia earned 50 million dollars, equivalent to 554 million kroner, from the triumph.

– It is not too bad. In terms of how I will spend this money, I will let God guide me, Garcia said according to talkSPORT.

Haney, for his part, stated that he was disappointed with his own performance.
