Promoted to the Premier League after Leeds defeat – and now McKenna is closing in too

--

Leicester City were clear promotion favorites along with Leeds United, and on Friday night Leicester promotion was secured – without them playing themselves.

Queens Park Rangers won 4-0 against Leeds United at Loftus Road, and that result means that Leicester cannot be worse than number two in the Championship table.

Leeds are four points behind Leicester with only one game left to play, and thus it was the one season in the Championship for Leicester after relegation last season.

Former Pep Guardiola assistant Enzo Maresca (pictured at the top of the case) has not always been as popular with Leicester fans this season, but it ended in a direct promotion for the foxes.

QPR also secured their place with this result after battling relegation all season.

Increased the chance of another McKenna promotion

The result at Loftus Road not only caused jubilation in Leicester, but also at Portman Road, where former Manchester United coach Kieran McKenna has done a brilliant job as head coach.

The Leeds loss means that Ipswich has a very good chance of finishing in second place, which also gives direct promotion, which will be an incredible achievement considering that Ipswich played in League One last year.

They are admittedly one point behind Leeds at the time of writing (and with a worse goal difference), but they also have three games left, while Leeds only have a home game against Southampton (which ends in the play off) next weekend.

Before that, Ipswich will play away to Hull City and Coventry City, and if they take at least two points in the two games, then they have everything in their own hands before the last league round, at home against relegation-threatened Huddersfield. If they beat both Hull and Coventry, then promotion is already secured before the last round.
