There was drama in the morning hours in Moss when a boy was attacked by a man in his 50s on Thursday morning.

– The victim was probably on his way to school when the incident took place. As of now, we are not aware of any known relationship between the victim and the accused, operations manager Lisbeth Mjøsund told the press after the stabbing.

The man was initially charged with bodily harm, but the charge was later changed to attempted murder.

– The charge has been changed after information has become available in the case. We are early in the investigation and the charge may be changed again, says police station chief Henning Dalbye to VG.

The operations manager says they were notified of the incident at 8.34am. The boy suffered several cuts or stab wounds, he was sent to Kalnes Hospital for treatment.

– This appears random. What has happened here is not normal. We have no indication that the man was under the influence of drugs, but a possible medical check-up will eventually show that, says police task leader Anders Strømsæther to Moss Avis.

The mayor of Moss, Simen Nord, tells VG that he reacted with shock at the incident.

– I am deeply shocked to have heard that a student was stabbed on the way to school this morning, Nord tells the newspaper.

The violent incident took place in the Grindvoll/Innfartsveien area.
