Norwegian Ski Association, Ski Association | Can the Ski Association avoid Marthe Kristoffersen?

The comment expresses the writer’s opinions.

Stig Rune Kveen gives himself up as coach for the women’s national cross-country team. Colleague Sjur Ole Svarstad looks set to continue. No surprise that something is happening on the coaching side after a very disappointing season in terms of results.

Kveen states that he will prioritize family as the reason for his resignation. That is of course understandable. At the same time, it’s also a bit funny to volunteer less than a year before what must also be big for a coach: a WC on home soil.

Worked all my life as a journalist/reporter. Started in local newspapers, then ten years in NRK, then 28 years in TV 2. Has worked in skiing in recent years; especially cross-country skiing.

Kveens’ exit means that the Norwegian Ski Association has to go on the hunt for a coach.

The position is advertised this week.

There are several people who can step in and do a good job here, even if there is only a short time until the WC in Trondheim.

But, I think the Ski Association must now do more than just talk about the importance of getting female coaches.

Hire Marthe Kristoffersen.

When Sjur Ole Svarstad and Stig Rune Kveen were hired, there was no shortage of great words from the cross-country management that the Ski Association wanted a female coach. Marthe Kristoffersen was relevant for one of the jobs. But, she didn’t hear a peep.

Now the Norwegian Ski Association must show that it is not just empty words and contact the 34-year-old as soon as possible. As far as I remember, she did not apply last time. However, she has ambitions as a trainer. She has never hidden that.

Marthe Kristoffersen is currently the sports director of the Swedish cross-country team, Team Eksjöhus. Previously, she was a coach for several years for one of the regional teams of the Norwegian Ski Association. She has a very good track record where she has been a boss.

I feel convinced that Marthe Kristoffersen is the right choice now. For the team, for herself and not least for the Norwegian Skiing Association.
