Jonny Edvin Finnes fell asleep on Palm Sunday – aged 89.

Right-wing leader Erna Solberg (63) and her husband Sindre Finnes (59) had just started their Easter holiday when they received the news of his death.

– He died at home in Ålesund, at the nursing home where he has been living for the last time. Father was completely clear in his head until the last day, says Finnes in a statement to VG.

Jonny Edvin Finnes was born in 1934 and would have turned 90 later this year. He worked as an office manager and got the King’s Medal of MeritAn award given to people who have carried out valuable work for society. in 2004.

Solberg describes his father-in-law as a “fantastic grandfather” and an important part of the upbringing of his children Ingrid and Erik.

– Ålesund has become a very proud Sunnmøring and local patriot poorer. It is a good person who has passed away. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren, she says.

He was also proud when his daughter-in-law was elected as the country’s prime minister in September 2013.

– This is big. There are not many people who have had the experience of the very closest relative moving into the Prime Minister’s residence, Jonny Edvin Finnes told NRK at the time.

Now the family will take care of the good memories, says Finnes:

– It is clear that it has been a different Easter. There are many thoughts and sadness that come to mind at such a time. It is good to know that father has had a rich and long life.
