Serious violent incident in Oslo with a sharp object

--

Police are on the scene in Møllergata in central Oslo, following a report of a man who has been subjected to violence with a knife.

– The person is conscious and is being looked after by healthcare personnel. As of now, there is no question that there will be life-threatening injuries, but it is too early to say anything about how serious the man’s injuries have been, says operations manager Øyvind Hammervold to VG.

The police have not arrested a perpetrator. They currently believe that the incident happened outdoors.

Just before 9.30pm on Saturday evening, the police have ended an active search for the perpetrator. As of 10:45 p.m., no perpetrator has yet been found.

– We have ended the search now, without any finding of a perpetrator, says Hammervold.

Task leader Tore Barstad tells NTB that there were two men who had been in a basket fight with another man and inflicted stab wounds on him, before then running from the scene.

– We have seized the knife itself and are working to obtain video surveillance that shows the escape route of the two perpetrators, says the task leader.

The victim is a man in his 20s from Eastern Europe, says Hammervold to VG.

There were several police units at the scene, while the ambulances left the scene after half an hour. The police received a report about the incident at 8.35pm on Saturday evening.

– When it comes to a serious incident of violence, we act accordingly. We are now working to find the perpetrator, and obtain witness descriptions from the scene.

Outside the crime scene, police from the forensics department take pictures of a bench at the entrance.

Close by, two women are sitting smoking. They were inside the bar when the incident happened.

– We only saw a knife sticking out of a man’s shoulder. We heard nothing, so for us it was undramatic. But we were shocked, it was all very unpleasant, says a woman who wishes to remain anonymous.

The operation manager will not go into detail about the age of the victim. He also does not want to say anything about what the weapon is supposed to be, but only refers to it as “a sharp object”.

The police have not opened a case on the matter as of 9.30pm on Saturday evening, but the operations manager does not believe that there is any question of the case being categorized as an attempted murder.

– As of now, there is talk of serious violence, but that can change.
