Recalling cheese flavored snacks

The Norwegian Food Safety Authority must read carefully through ingredient lists.

Snacks with cheese flavor Cheez Zum – cheese ring snacks from the Philippines are recalled due to the content of the coloring agent E110, which is not allowed in snack products based on grains, flour or starch.

Cheez Zum – cheese ring snacks – Cheddar Cheese Flavor has been imported from the Philippines via a supplier in the Netherlands.

The product is imported by Asia engros AS and international matsenter AS, and sold on to independent grocery stores throughout the country. Customers who have purchased the products are asked to throw them away or return them to the store in which they purchased the products.

E 110 is a dye which in Norwegian regulations is called para orange. In order for the food to be safe, regulations have been drawn up for the use of additives.

One rule is that the substances must be approved for use only in certain groups of foodstuffs, so that their use does not constitute a health hazard. In snack products based on grain, flour or starch, such as cheez zum, E 110 is not permitted.

The Norwegian Food Safety Authority also asks consumers to be aware of similar snacks, which may contain the dye. E 110 also has other names, for example:

• Sunset Yellow FCF
