– I think it is very stupid that this year’s 17 May celebration will not be at Viste

--

NATIONAL DAY: May 17 is approaching, and as you know, the celebration has been moved from Vistestranden to Vår Energi Arena Randaberg. This is something that goes beyond the budget of Viste beach hotel, which had settled on yet another folk festival at Viste.

– Personally, I believe that Vistestranden is the perfect place for our national day celebration, and I think it is very stupid that this year’s 17 May celebration will not be at Viste, says Elisabeth Lied.

Not only do they lose a good sale of ice cream and that of food belonging to the national day, the hotel also loses the senior citizens’ party. Lied and the gang at the hotel had prepared for 17 May at the beach.

The senior party is something the hotel will miss.

– We will still have two “party cold tables”, and look forward to welcoming close to 250 guests. Already now, in just a few days, registrations have started pouring in. Many also have the expression that they think it is sad that there will not be a May 17 celebration at the beach, but we will do everything we can to make it a folk festival in our premises.

Just after 17 May last year and 2022, Lied together with the 17 May committee had an evaluation. They then agreed that the national day celebration at Viste was a good thing, and through dialogue Lied and the gang at the hotel improved what they had gone through, including what went into parking, change and service.

– I especially remember the long ice cream queue, everyone had to have soft ice cream, and our only soft ice cream machine got really hot a few times. It was full steam both outside and inside our hotel. Then we learned to have enough change available, as there was not enough of it in 2022.

This will not be the case at Viste on 17 May.

The most important thing for Lied is that Randabergbuen gets a May 17 celebration they will remember, and understand what has to do with the weather. She herself remembers the national day celebrations when she was little, they celebrated it outside regardless of the weather.

– Perhaps it would have been an idea to have two May 17 celebrations, one in the hall and one at Viste, so that people can choose. In any case, it is short-sighted to think that there will be less work, because less work means fewer people and less money in the coffers, concludes Lied, who wishes people the best of luck with this year’s 17 May celebrations, whether they choose the children’s train in Stavanger, as Lied will do or the local event in Randaberg.
