It was with great sadness that I received news of Viggo’s passing today. We have known each other for many years. It becomes very special when such a close friend and colleague passes away. Viggo’s name was Helge Viggo, but he only used Viggo on a daily basis. I also had the pleasure of being Viggo’s best man when he married his beloved Bente in 2007.

Viggo was a prominent figure in the trade union movement, he was a shop steward/club leader at Agnes Fabrikker for a number of years. He was in the construction workers’ union, later they became part of the General Union. Viggo belonged to ward 72, which was merged with ward 68, and later with ward 34 (Sandefjord/Larvik). Viggo held several positions in the department, including a period as manager.

We had many good conversations both at work and socially. We had countless business visits together in Larvik and Sandefjord, where recruiting and talking to old and new members was the focus. This was instructive, and a time I look back on with great pleasure.

Viggo was employed as an organizational worker in Fellesforbundet Region Vestfold (later Fellesforbundet-Vestfold), where he was until he retired. Viggo was knowledgeable and had great respect among members and staff.

I also had the pleasure of sitting for a period with Viggo on the municipal council in Larvik, for the Labor Party. There was a period, politics became a bit too slow, and too many case papers for Viggo, but he was very interested in politics.

Today, thoughts go to Bente with family and friends. I pray for Helge Viggo Hagen’s memory.
