On Thursday, ten centimeters of snow will fall over Halden, and with relatively low temperatures in the coming days, this could lead to difficult driving conditions.
10 centimeters
Siri Wiberg, meteorologist at the Meteorological Institute, unfortunately has no good news to bring to the people of Halden who had planned to enjoy themselves in the sun at the weekend.
– There will also be a good deal of snow in your area. It starts on Thursday morning, then it should snow more or less continuously until Friday morning. Around 10 centimeters of snow can fall, says Wiberg to Halden Arbeiderblad.
She adds that the snow will probably cause challenges for motorists.
– If you have changed to summer tyres, it is probably best to stay at home or use other means of transport, she says.
New round of precipitation
There is also a danger that the rainfall on Thursday will not be the only one. Wiberg says that even if the rain should stop on Friday morning and there will be a delay until Friday afternoon, there will be another round of rain on Friday evening.
– Then the air is milder, but there can be supercooled rain that freezes on the ground, which can make it challenging. Plus, if there’s been 10 centimeters of snow and rain on top of that, it’s probably not the most favorable.
– It is probably good to be aware that there can also be difficult driving conditions on Friday afternoon and evening, even if the air is milder, says Wiberg.
Milder next week
Night to Saturday it will be colder again, perhaps down to zero degrees and a new round of precipitation.
– But after that, it seems that we will get quite high temperatures and the snow is over for this time, says Wiberg.
– For the rest of the spring? do you promise?
– No, unfortunately I can’t promise that, laughs Wiberg.
– But next week it looks milder, but there is a certain danger that we will get down to zero at night, even if the temperatures during the day will be quite a bit higher. It will probably be 10 plus degrees or more during the day, which means that the snow can disappear quite quickly.
In addition to the snow, Halden residents can also expect a lot of wind.
– An easterly wind will blow, perhaps in a fresh breeze. This means that there can also be a snowstorm, says Wiberg.
