The mayor was also present and had the honor of cutting the ribbon well assisted by student council representatives. The mayor himself found reading challenging as a student.

– It is incredibly important to read. Now they will “travel” to many countries with the reading. They cannot now travel to these places themselves, but they can dream of diving to these countries. It is important that everyone participates in the reading project at their own level, said the mayor.

The reading project was designed in connection with the language municipality project in Øygarden and Lexplore. The students and steps collect points and flags. Principal Linda Selheim says that Spilepollen has done well in reading in national tests.

– We have now finished mapping the reading skills of all the pupils, says the headmaster on the start day of the reading project.

Popular with reading

Now the pupils will read around the world. It was Alexandra Busomoke, Victoria Kviet Kute Gourand and Mathea Telle who assisted the mayor during the cord cutting.

– I like reading romantic books best. I have now read To all the boys I’ve loved before (Jenny Hann). This is a series of three books, says Victoria, who would like to read about Japan in the reading project.

– I think crime books and poems are exciting. I have recently read the suspense novel Hevnen, says Alexandra, who can imagine becoming more familiar with Italy.

– Crimea is my favorite, says Mathea, who has read The Drone and will look for reading material about Portugal in the reading project.

The three pupils say that all the pupils start the day with the reading quarter. This is something they appreciate.

– We go to the school library and borrow books one day each week. There is a good selection of books in the library, but sometimes a few individual books are missing when we read series books, say the three.
