The municipal director must go back to the drawing board to enter all the variables such a restructuring will mean for the affected social and economic consequences for Kongsberg.

These are not just figures in a budget settlement.

Then it might be smart to think a little more long-term than it seems to have been done until now.

Yes, maybe there can even come up with innovative solutions about how to structure care for the elderly in our municipality. a whole new way to solve it! That is where the profits from the restructuring of the schools are intended to be transferred, as we have been told. .

Is it safeguarding children’s upbringing, with the stroke of a pen striking out school districts that cause the municipal director problems in the accounting balance?

No, it’s just paperwork.

The children in our city are more valuable than if we can only offer the minimum requirements according to regulations and statutory schooling.

Fill the schools with more content and give the children the safe upbringing they deserve.

We know that especially children who lose their connection to their immediate environment become insecure and anxious about not being included.

We parents don’t need a research report to understand that.

The local environment of a child who lives at Wennersborg school is not in Raumyr!

My mother grew up in Blomsgate, and my childhood formed strong ties to this area of the district.

I have no direct connection to Wennesborg today, and my grandchildren go to other schools in the town that are not affected.

I am fighting for Wennersborg school because it is incredibly important for the district and the social environment on the West side.

I have my heart in Kongsberg and want all children to have the same amount of security and predictability in their local environment, regardless of which postcode they sort under in Kongsberg.

Children should never have to know if the school they attend will disappear!

It creates both a stomach ache and a lot of insecurity.

How does the neighborhood school principle work?

The neighborhood school principle is a statutory admission scheme for primary school.

The provision means that pupils in primary school have the right to go to the school closest to where they live, or the school in the local environment they belong to.

When both options fall away, are the children taken care of??

No, they are not!!, would be my answer.

We know, from research, that children who do not thrive get less learning.

How can any politician vote for a solution where the local school is demolished?

Knowing that they take away the daily well-being of a vulnerable child and the stress they will be exposed to on the way to school.

We know that children who dread and do not enjoy school get low learning outcomes.

I think some children will dread going home again at the start of the school day.

It is a painful and exhausting feeling.

This in turn will affect their ability to perform when they reach upper secondary school. Dropping out of upper secondary school is a major challenge in today’s schools.

Then you cannot adopt a school structure that contributes to increasing this problem.

Young people who do not feel included and know how to cope face challenges in life more often than those who have a good starting point within their local school in their local environment. This is well known and this is available in various research reports on the subject.

Now the politicians must be able to juggle up to several thoughts in the team, both with impact assessments that are easily accessible with comparable cities/villages, on the internet and common sense.

“The schools must help to counteract alienation, psychological difficulties and much more, where the purpose is to create a warmer and safer society.

It does not suit everyone to go to a “big” school. What happens when the “society” of the children is pulverized by the school, which is the “foundation wall” of their everyday life, disappearing?” quote National Association of Schools, Altaposten 17.11.22

Let me remind you of Arnulf Øverland’s famous words;

“You shouldn’t tolerate injustice that doesn’t affect you yourself”

A fine guideline in life both for us the administration, us voters and politicians in Kongsberg
