Building collapse in Halden: – Shocking experience

At 05.44 the police in Øst reported that an industrial building in Halden had partially collapsed.

There were 21 people inside the building when the incident took place. All of these have been accounted for and no one was injured.

– There were parts of the mountain that crashed into the building. This led to several cranes tipping over and parts of the building collapsing, says duty manager at the East 110 central Arne Normi ​​to NTB.

Operations manager Trond Lorentzen in the East police district tells NTB that they received information about the incident at around 04.35.

– One person was locked up for a short period, but was released after a short time. The employees have gathered and are being looked after by the healthcare system together with the municipality and employer.

Press contact at Norske Skog, Carsten Dybevig, tells Dagbladet that there is a large landslide that has caused severe damage to the factory.

– We are working to get a full overview of the extent of the damage and any possibilities for new landslides.

Dybevig adds that it is currently too dangerous to enter the area, and that production will be suspended for a longer period.

– There are no physical injuries, but it is clear that there is a tremendous strain mentally and a shocking experience for those who were present, says the press contact.

Norway’s Geotechnical Institute has sent a geologist to the site who will make assessments together with the police’s incident leader with a view to whether new landslides may occur, NTB is informed.
