Helene Olafsen, Gullruten | TV 2 owes Helene Olafsen a big apology

The comment expresses the writer’s opinions.

The gold route went off on Saturday and in many ways can be said to have been a success. At least I got what I wanted, when Kathrine Thorborg Johansen won the award for best actress for her role in “Makta”. Fredrik Solvang also received a much-deserved award, something I had expressed a wish for.

But… we absolutely have to talk about what met us at the start – and which, by the way, followed us with little drips throughout the broadcast.

Helene Olafsen’s dance performance.

First, I just want to emphasize that this not is criticism of Olafsen – unless it turns out that this was actually her idea. I have very little faith in that.

Put in a hopeless situation

Gullruten opens with Helene Olafsen and two dancers, in what appear to be “Austin Powers” outfits. There is dancing in small (but after all good and well-executed) movements, while Helene Olafsen rattles off things that have to do with the world of entertainment. It mostly feels like they are walking around the stage and occasionally just tilting their heads a little.

The purpose of the starting number is to summarize the TV year. That’s fine enough, but that must So are there better ways to do it? The text is tame and poor, but Olafsen delivers it as well as possible. She should be applauded for that.

I hardly know where to start, but let me try to get straight to the point here:

Who on earth came up with this? Who put Helene Olafsen in this hopeless situation? Who the hell thinks this is good entertainment?

I don’t get it and I don’t understand it. It felt like something that could have been put together 50 years ago, and even then it would have been tiny as hell. It wasn’t fun. Not interesting either, beyond the fact that you wonder how Is it possible to come up with something like that? It wasn’t particularly tasty either.

It had nothing.

And this is coming from someone who loves dance. From someone who loves light-hearted entertainment.

Maria Ludvigsen

Maria Ludvigsen is SoMe manager and entertainment commentator in Nettavisen. She has previously distinguished herself as a “Shall we dance” commentator, and likes to have her say on everything that creeps up and down in Norwegian and international entertainment.

Deserves a pay rise

Helene Olafsen did her very best. She stood in the madness like a queen. To be able to go into this with skin and hair, and deliver as wholeheartedly as she did, it really is a feat.

I’m actually unsure if there is anyone else with such a high level of professionalism that they would be able to carry this out without collapsing in shame and embarrassment.

All kudos, honor and glory to the presenter for carrying it out, but she should be angry at TV 2 and those who are responsible for this feature.

Unfortunately, the creator of the idea was not satisfied with one element, either. After about 20 minutes they are back on stage for more ‘dancing’. Even a little later, she appears with Nate and Cengiz. Then the screenwriter has at least coughed up a Per-Willy Amundsen joke that causes something to linger in the smiley face.

At some point I feel almost completely exhausted by these features. As if I can’t take it anymore – as if there aren’t enough pillows available.

Deserves a fat apology

Fortunately, it helped somewhat when Else Kåss Furuseth and Trude Drevland joined the madness. Then it somehow becomes so surreal that it was pain-relieving in itself. Then I at least chuckled a little.

I must make a certain reservation that the production here has attempted something that I just don’t understand. Either because I’m too old – or because I’m too young. It seems they’ve attempted some references to Austin Powers – and/or The Pink Panther?

It must be very ironic and funny. The only problem is that it is neither.

Pute-TV kind of gets a new definition after this, if you ask me.

In one of these features, Olafsen makes some TV statements and at one point also says: “Of course we give TV 2 what they want”.

That’s a good summary. That says everything I think and feel about the dance elements Olafsen had to be in:

Someone has had a really bad idea, which should have been stopped. It didn’t happen and Olafsen had to suffer for it.

Someone has to go. TV 2 at least owes Helene Olafsen a fat apology.
