JK Rowling (58), who is best known for her best-selling books about “Harry Potter”, goes hard on the social media X and challenges the police to arrest her, according to the New York Post.

Scotland introduced new hate speech rules on Monday. The new law prohibits hate based on age, disability, race, religion, sexual orientation and gender identity.

Critics of the law believe that it is too broad and that it could stand in the way of freedom of expression.

«There is an end to freedom of speech and freedom of belief in Scotland if the accurate description of biological sex is deemed criminal. I’m currently out of the country, but if what I’ve written here qualifies as an offense under the new law, I look forward to being arrested when I return to the birthplace of the Scottish Enlightenment», writes the author.

Rowling’s comments came after Scotland’s Minister for Community Safety had stated that calling a trans woman “he” could be investigated and prosecuted under the new law, writes The Telegraph.

The minister later followed up and said that it would be up to the police whether Rowling’s statements could be perceived as criminal.

«The new legislation could be misused by activists who want to silence those of us who speak out about the dangers of eliminating gendered spaces for women and girls, the pointlessness of crime data about violent and sexual assaults committed by men being recorded as women’s crimes, the grotesque injustice by allowing men to compete in women’s sports”Rowling continues.

According to the Daily Mail, Elon Musk has also come out against the new law.

Strong reactions

Rowling has a long history of similar comments, which began in 2017 when she liked a post that condemned the transgender rights movement, writes the New York Post.

In 2019, she got into trouble again when she defended a woman who was fired from her job because she wrote “men cannot become women” on social media.

In the years that followed, Rowling has been very outspoken about her views, resulting in backlash from Harry Potter fans and even some of the actors in the films.
