Xiaomi shows factory: – New car every 76 seconds

--

(Elbil24): When the Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi decides to make electric cars, it does not go unnoticed.

Crazy pre-sale

The company’s first car, the sedan SU7, was pre-sold in as many as 50,000 copies in just 27 minutes when the manufacturer opened the order books, and within the first 24 hours the number had passed 90,000.

50,000 orders in 27 minutes

The best version is the SU7 Max, with 800V architecture and 101 kWh battery, which should be able to charge 10-80 in 19 minutes. It pulls on all four wheels with a total output of 673 horsepower, does 0-100 in 2.78 seconds and costs around NOK 450,000 in China.

Here, in practice, we are talking about a car the size of the Tesla Model S that costs roughly the same as the Tesla Model 3.

Showing off the factory

In a video, Xiaomi is now showing off its factory, the Xiaomi Super Factory, and it seems to be among the most modern in the world. You can see the video at the top of this article.

Despite over 700,000 square metres, hardly any people work in the factory – the few who work there are tasked with supervising the 700 robots responsible for building the cars.

In the body shop, for example, there are 20 human employees and 381 robots, eight per workstation. According to Autoevolution, the robots adjust hinges and fasten doors, front/rear windows and panoramic glass roofs, among other things.

According to Xiaomi, this is three times as fast as when using only live mechanics.

With the help of laser measurements and X-rays, the precision on the screwing must be 0.5 mm, and 0.1 mm on the battery pack. Robots are also responsible for the spray painting of the cars and can clean, fill and change between colors in just 40 minutes.
