The leader of Rød Ungdom (RU), Amrit Kaur, called a number of prominent people terrorists on TikTok before the weekend.
It has caused reactions.
Deleted the video
– Terrorists are called Netanyahu, Biden, Stoltenberg, Støre or Tangen, she said in the video according to VG.
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, NATO leader Jens Stoltenberg and Oil Fund chief Nicolai Tangen were thus all called terrorists by Kaur.
The video is said to have been recorded after she was released from solitary confinement for demonstrating against the Gaza war by blocking the entrance to Norges Bank.
Kaur, who was elected head of RU earlier in April, has now deleted the video from TikTok and apologized.
– It was a derailment to call someone a terrorist, by doing so I trivialized the experiences of the survivors and relatives. I apologize for that, know that it was absolutely not the intention, she wrote according to VG on Facebook.
Look at state aid
National board member in Rødt and group leader in Rødt Porsgrunn, Pål Berby, is not impressed by the apology.
– She only apologizes for derailing the debate. I do not perceive this as any regret that she has gone out and called certain prominent Labor Party politicians terrorists. She still stands for the fact that they are terrorists, as I understand it, he says to VG.
Berby believes that the financial support for RU should be reassessed.
– When we receive such extreme statements and there is no real apology, I think we have to go in and see if the basis for state support for Red Youth is present, he says.
– Doesn’t belong anywhere
Nor does Charlotte Therkelsen, mayor of Kragerø and deputy leader of Rødt, support Kaur.
– The RU leader’s statements do not belong anywhere, not in Rød Ungdom and not in Rødt. I not only expect an apology, but also that the new RU management takes seriously the fact that several long-standing and central members of their organization are now signing out as a direct reaction to these statements, she writes on Facebook.
