Still breathing

The woman should have been breathing when the first people found her, says the sheriff, according to CNN.

Investigating deaths

The path up Bear Mountain is described, among other things, as “steep and difficult in some places”, according to the US Forest Service.

The route has an ascent of just under 550 metres, it says on the website.

The cause of the death is being investigated, the Yavapai police district says, and on Wednesday they were able to confirm that they have interviewed a number of witnesses and other hikers who came down from the mountain.
