Australia demands censorship of terrorist video: Elon Musk refuses

On Monday last week, a bishop was attacked with a knife during a live service in Sydney. A clip of the incident has gone viral on Elon Musk’s social platform, X.

According to Premier Christian News, the head of Australia’s digital security service has issued a notice to major social media sites, such as X and Meta, asking them to remove the videos showing the knife attack.

It was a 15-year-old boy who carried out the knife attack while shouting “Allahu Akbar”. Australian authorities refer to it as a terrorist attack, and based on this they fear that the video may inspire new acts of terrorism.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk does not want to comply with the demands of the Australian authorities. He believes their demand for censorship is contrary to freedom of expression. Musk has previously said that the only reason he bought Twitter in 2022, which he later renamed X, was because he wanted to restore freedom of expression on the platform.

– We are trying to censor the video in Australia, but the Australian Censorship Commission demands that we ban the content globally. We will not agree to that, Musk signs https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1782550334155420074adding:

– If one country is to be allowed to censor content for the entire world, what stops any country from being allowed to control the entire world’s internet?

The SpaceX and Tesla founder has also made several jabs at the Australian authorities in the last couple of days:

Four people were injured in the knife attack last week. The 53-year-old bishop, for his part, is said to have prayed for the attacker before the ambulance arrived, according to the police.

A large group of people gathered outside the church building shortly after the attack. A video from the scene shows the group shouting “bring him out”, in reference to the perpetrator.

Unrest developed at the site in the hours following the attack. This appears in a number of videos that are shared on social media.
