Ukraine has once again carried out what appears to be a highly damaging drone strike against Russia. This time, the Ukrainians have struck very far into Russian territory, specifically in Tatarstan, over 1,200 kilometers from the front line. This is confirmed by local authorities in Tatarstan.

The well-known Ukrainian journalist Yuri Butusov writes on Telegram that this attack is the most far-reaching Ukrainian drone attack ever.

Both he and the journalist Illia Ponomarenko believe this attack may have been carried out with a small plane, acting as one https://twitter.com/IAPonomarenko/status/1775050929013702865.

Russian and Ukrainian media have published a video purporting to show the attack.

Not only did the Ukrainians succeed in attacking targets deep inside Russia. They are said to have also hit two major targets in Tatarstan: In Jelabuga and Nizhnekamsk.

It could hit Putin brutally in the longer term.

Objective 1: Oil refinery

Ukrainian drones have done enormous damage to the Russian fuel industry in recent months. Over 10 refineries have been destroyed. For example, in two days, the attacks destroyed 12 percent of the Russian oil refining capacity.

Until the summer of 2025, the goal is to produce 6,000 drones, according to the Washington Post.

– We will continue with such attacks, say the Ukrainian authorities on Tuesday.

The refinery which is said to have been hit last night is one of the largest and newest in the whole of Russia.

Videos on social media show how a number of barrack buildings for workers at the factory are said to have been hit in the attack. The extent of the damage to the factory itself is currently unclear, but should it turn out to be seriously damaged, there will be consequences for Putin’s warfare in Ukraine – especially in the long term. The Taneco refinery will have a capacity of 360,000 barrels per year. day.

The attack on yet another oil refinery could thus mean trouble for Putin among his own citizens.

Few things provoke Russians more than the fact that it will be more expensive to drive a car. The Russian newspaper RBK wrote a few weeks ago that due to the many attacks, the price at the petrol pump is increasing.

Objective 2: Dreaded drone factory

The war in Ukraine is not just a war in the trenches. Drones have played a huge role in the bloody conflict. When Russia started importing so-called kamikaze drones from Iran, Shahed drones, it helped give Putin several good cards in his hand.

The Russian president was so pleased with the deadly technology that he started work on his own drone factory in Tatarstan. For months, experts have watched in horror at what satellite images look like a huge super factory in Russia.

On April 22, 2022, just under two months after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the production facility in Tatarstan has come under cover.

This is what the facility looks like on 27 November. Remains of drones manufactured in Russia have been found in Ukraine.

A drone factory is not built overnight. But there are many indications that the Ukrainians have managed to destroy a lot in just one night.
