Accident, Melhus | A crane overturned a shopping center in Melhus

The online newspaper: A crane overturned in the center of Melhus, more precisely above the shopping center Melhustorget, on Friday morning.

The evacuees were first moved out of Melhusporten and into Melhusbanken. Afterwards, they were moved into the town hall.

The crane has been set up during work on the construction of the housing project Melhustorget.

Project manager John Olaf Solstad of the contractor Hent informs TV 2 that it is a 50-metre high building crane, a so-called tower crane, which has toppled over.

Crisis management in Melhus

Melhus municipality has established crisis management in connection with the crane overturn on Friday morning. The municipality writes this on its website.

The municipality’s psychosocial crisis team assists those affected by the incident.

The police have confirmed on Friday afternoon that a person has been found dead. The construction site and Melhustorget are closed, and the police are investigating the accident.

– It is a deeply tragic accident. Our thoughts go out to the bereaved and others affected, says mayor Jorid Jagtøyen in Melhus municipality.
